COMPANION NOTES: hands for mapping, mudrā, and feeling the world
Anatomy pointers and practice, an extended wander into the realm of hasta mudrā, a thoughtful poem from Jane Hirshfield, some image boards, and journaling prompts for creative exploration.
First off, if you’re after more detailed anatomy, I’d like to point you to Sam Webster’s presentation of the bones and muscles of the hand from his YouTube channel that I think you’ll find useful. There is also some helpful information here at KenHub on hand anatomy including nerves, arteries and veins. For my part, take a look at the video practices below.
GUIDED MOVEMENT EXPLORATIONS
I have a couple of guided practices to bring the anatomy information into an embodied experience: a demonstration of how you might map the bones and joints, and a sequence of hand movements that you might call a vinyasa for your hands and wrists!
